CC-F-0196.T.jpg

A hand-colored lithograph of the starboard-side view of the schooner yacht 'Coquette' of Boston maneuvering through rough waves. Only the jib and mainsail are out. White washes of watercolor highlight the peaks of the waves. The only other source of color is the blue and white pennant. A square-rigged vessel is visible in the right background and the faint outline of a lighthouse and shore are visible in the left background.

The 'Coquette' was built in 1845 by Winde & Clinkard for J. H. Perkins. On 10 October 1846, the 'Coquette' beat the sloop yacht Maria, owned by J. C. Stevens of Hoboken, in a racing match and won $1,000.
