AF-SA-0167.T.jpg

Watercolor depicting two ships by an iceberg, and a separate frame or matting from which the water color appears to have been cut away. The catercolor is badly discoored and the outline inks and white paint are all which can be readily discerned. At left, a three-masted ship flying the United States flag sails past an iceberg, at center. In the right-hand background is a two-masted ship.
On the matting the following text is meticulously hand-lettered in ink: "Ship ROSCIUS (Captain Merrihew) and Barque FANNY passing ICE. July 15. 1856."
