Plate 13 of the print series 'Episodes Maritimes.' The scene of the aftermath of the battle of the Glorious First of June (French: Combat du Prairial) in 1794. A dismasted and badly damaged French ship, the 'Vengeur du Peuple,' drifts in the foreground flying a tattered French ensign. Soldiers cling to the wreckage in the foreground. The British ships behind the 'Vengeur' are also battered, but relatively intact. The conflict was the first and largest fleet action between the English and the French during the French Revolutionary Wars.
